With the approach stripped down to photorealism, drawings explore the power dynamics between an artist and their artwork. The approach to “ Microexpressions” highlights an important artistic dichotomy: the creative nurturing of a work as it is in progress, and the sometimes cruel need to strip back and edit. The key to this project is the use of negative space, subtlety and restraint. By focusing on fragments of a completed work, I tried to display a curatorial eye for the most evocative parts of drawings, while also allowing myself to utilize numerous stylistic gestures in a single piece.
