ARTIST STATEMENT

I have always believed drawing is the best way to attain profound knowledge of an object or person. This is a doctrine and discipline, through which I reveal the truth about myself. External breath of the artist and internal breath of model, creates the third life on paper.

That is why I am so much interested in drawing portraits.

I look for inspiration in the nature of the observed fragments, mostly on events taking place in my immediate surroundings. My portraits are filled with emotion which shows the incredibly strong moods, mental experiences, that accompany me in the act of creation. I care about the appearance of a transient world and the destruction of the social - psychological man in the modern world.

My drawings are often incomplete, and as understated as they leave place for imagination, force to reflection. I’ve always had a great interest in the details, perfect technique, subtlety and simplicity of portraying reality. Thanks to this I am able to undertake the most difficult subject in art, telling a story about someone and breathing life into the drawing.

In a categorical emphasis on the essential qualities of character, in boldly showing the human features and in the passion in which I draw, I become aware, sometimes even cruel and sometimes very subtle artist.

BIO

KATARZYNA TOMASZEWSKA
Born in 1987 in Wrocław, Poland.
Graduated in 2011 from Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław, where she completed Master Degree studies in Graphic Arts, Graphic Design and Drawing. Currently pursuing her PhD degree at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.
